In our yoga retreats, mindfulness isn’t just a practice; it’s a way of life. Mindfulness is the art of being present in the moment and forms the cornerstone of your yoga retreat experience at Eden. We have all experienced it in our lives, being in a flow state: where our mind is quiet and completely absorbed in what we do. There is no sense of time and it feels great! To get into the serenity of the present moment is something we can practice. Here are 5 immersive ways we cultivate mindfulness at our retreats:
1. Embark with Intention

Every journey into mindfulness begins with a simple question: “How am I feeling?”. And this is exactly how you start your day at Eden. Based on how you feel, you ask yourself: “What does my body and mind need at this moment?”. Our experienced retreat leaders will guide you in the process of introspection and set intentions aligned with your needs. By prioritizing self-awareness over to-do lists, you reclaim control of your day, cultivating a sense of purpose and clarity.
2. Mindful breathing

After setting your intention, we follow up with a mindful breathing exercise. When our mind is revisiting past experiences or when we are worrying about the future, we usually experience more stress, then when the event is actually happening. Our breath is such a powerful tool. When we bring our attention to our breath, it automatically brings us to the present moment. Being in the present moment is something you can practice, it’s a skill. When you are able to focus on something as simple as your breath, you can focus on anything. And nowadays the ability to focus is a super power.
3. Mindful movement

The practice of yoga is a mindfulness practice where we constantly bring our awareness to different areas of our body and our breath. With practice, this is one of the easiest ways to get into that flow state and this is exactly why people are falling in love with yoga. An advanced yogi is not someone who is able to do all kinds of challenging poses. It is someone who listens to the body’s wisdom, fostering a deeper connection within.
4. Mindful eating

My teacher would like to say: “Drink like you are eating and chew until you can eat like you are drinking”. To bring mindfulness to what we are eating, feeling the textures, experiencing all of the sensations in our mouth, the experience becomes even more pleasurable and satisfying. We are very conscious about where our food is coming from and all of our recipes are carefully designed to nourish your body and mind. Read “What type of food to expect in our yoga retreat?” to get to know our culinary philosophy.
5. Meditation

In every yoga retreat at Eden, we start and end our day with a meditation practice. There are many forms of meditation and all forms can be used for different purposes. In mindfulness meditation you need something to focus on. This can be your breath, your senses, anything that brings you back to the present moment. Whenever your mind tends to wander, you gently bring it back. The purpose of meditation is not so much about having no thoughts at all, it’s about having a compassionate relationship with your thoughts, being able to see your thoughts for what they are, just thoughts. Nothing more, nothing less.
Incorporate Mindfulness at Home

The beauty of mindfulness lies in its accessibility. We can practice mindfulness anytime, anywhere. It’s all about bringing your attention to the present moment in whatever you are doing. With practice you are able to catch your thoughts and instead of letting your thoughts control you how you feel, you reclaim agency over your thoughts and emotions. Which gives you the power to control your state of being. Begin your journey with us and experience the transformative power of mindfulness firsthand.
